Alumnae (OGL)

The Diocesan School Old Girls’ League (OGL) was founded almost 100 years ago in 1911 to carry out the School motto “Ut Serviamus”, to encourage fellowship among Old Girls of the School and to foster their continued association with, and interest in the School. The League has always been an active and committed member of the School family and has almost 11,000 members of whom over 3,000 are financial members both in New Zealand and throughout the world. The League primarily operates as a friend raising organisation but also contributes financially to the School in various ways annually.  On average this contribution amounts at present to approximately $120,000 per annum. Old Girls, whether financial members or not, are represented and enthusiastically contributing to every part of the School family, including the Board, the staff, and the parents. Wherever it is possible to volunteer Old Girls are to the fore.

Old Girls’ League Committee

The Old Girls' League Committee works tirelessly to serve its members and carry out the founding tenets. A President, Treasurer and Committee are elected each Founders Weekend at the Annual General Meeting, always held during the first weekend in November. The current President is Georgina Rose (nee Shaw), 1980 leaving year and we have an active Committee of twelve, of varying ages and life experiences.

To contact the League please address correspondence to:

Diocesan School Old Girls' League, P O Box 28 382, Remuera, Auckland 1541 or email Georgina on frandgs@xtra.co.nz.

We contribute eight pages to Dio Today, the School magazine issued four times a year and would be delighted to hear from you. We are always keen to have new members on the Committee, a very satisfying role and a chance to get involved in a variety of activities and use your skills.

The League Committee runs a number of events annually including:

Bryan Bartley Golf Day, usually held in March
Alumnae Meritae Assembly and Lunch, usually held in June (this special event honours exceptional Old Girls of all ages at a full School assembly)
Chapel Fesitval in August
W2W Awards and Lunch usually held in August jointly run with the Heritage Foundation, this event recognises Old Girls 35 years and younger that are considered by virtue of their achievements to date to be Women to Watch and is linked to a mentoring workshop programme
Founders Day Service and Annual General Meeting is held on the first weekend in November
Senior Old Girls' Morning Tea held in November for Old Girls over 65 years of age
Graduation Ball in December for the leavers of Year 13 and their parents and friends
Leavers' Gathering held in December for those girls one year out from the end of their School life

We also assist with Old Girls planning year reunions when possible, although we have limited capacity to do as much in this area as we would like at present.

Uniform Shop

The League Committee has run the Uniform Shop for the School since the year 2000. The shop is managed by a paid Manager and Assistants and is a significant business with a turnover of in excess of $600,000. It takes a major commitment from our voluntary Committee to manage the Shop, often the first point of contact for new pupils and their families.

The shop provides all School Uniform items for all 1500 or so girls except shoes. The profits from the Uniform Shop are divided 60/40 between the School and the League. The School’s share is put into the Heritage Foundation and the League’s share is retained within its Charitable Trust and used to fund our scholarship programme. These scholarships which encompass hardship, academic excellence, the arts, Spirit of Adventure berths, boarding and prestigious prizes such as the Eliza Edwards and Mary Pulling Awards, contribute between $45,000-$50,000 per annum to the School community.

Old Girls Portal

In April 2009 the School launched a website dedicated to our past students. Old Girls issued with a username and password can login to the portal, which is designed to deliver a range of online communication services, including;

participating in discussion forums
emailing other past pupils from their peer year
access to an events calendar
the ability to create announcement and upload photos

To receive your login credentials, please contact the Development Office by email to development@diocesan.school.nz .
