Multi-purpose Sports Turf Opens 15 February 2012

Official opening and blessing of the Multipurpose Sports Turf Complex
by His Excellency, Lt Gen The Rt Hon Sir Jerry Mateparae, GNZM, QSO, Governor-General of New Zealand and The Right Reverend Ross Bay, Bishop of Auckland.

Dawn Jones Sports Centre, Diocesan School for Girls

Following the official opening, there will be an inaugural hockey game featuring Dio Old Girls who were former representative players vs the Diocesan 1st XI squad and a netball game showcasing the talents of Staff vs a Diocesan student netball squad.


This all-weather turf will provide a much needed open space within the School’s campus, for general recreational use.

Sports features include:


competition standard hockey turf which will also be suitable for other activities such as Touch and Physical Education
 

Two netball courts and three tennis courts with superior rebound surface
 

Enclosed viewing gallery attached to the existing Dawn Jones Sports Centre that overlooks the playing turf
 

Other facilities will include: 


Covered bus shelter

Provision for car parking which will free up open space currently allocated to cars in the student precincts. It will also help to create a safer campus by greatly reducing the number of vehicles moving around the School buildings

A new Uniform Shop

Facilities and storage for the School Property Team
