Diocesan has a long, proud tradition of sporting achievement. The school boasts several national and individual secondary school titles along with a significant number of both age-group and full New Zealand international athletes.  No doubt these achievements will be further enhanced with the girls now being able to train year round in the state of the art Aquatic Centre.

And now, as Stage Two gets underway, the School will have an all-weather turf to cater for a wide range of other activities; very different from my days when Auckland's winter rains quickly turned the hockey field to mud!

The new facilities are designed to exacting environmental and architectural standards and I congratulate the planners on their vision and the School’s Board for their determination. I wish the project well as it will soon take shape within the school’s fine grounds.

Our path in life is never certain however I do believe that positive influences during your school years provide a fabulous head start. My time at Dio had a tremendous influence on my life and sporting career and that is why I remain in touch with the school and am very proud to support this project.

I believe the fabulous facilities that will be developed as a result of this project are an essential addition to the school environment. The proximity of the pool and the all weather turf in the school grounds will not only take pressure off parents, staff and students who are currently traveling endlessly to external facilities but most importantly, will allow students the opportunity to watch their role models train and perform on a daily basis.

This can only assist with development of goal setting for students and instilling strong values, which are important for long-term success both in life and sport.

I hope you can all share in the vision for this exciting project and support it with your generosity.

I have been a supporter of Diocesan School for the past 25 years and instrumental in the development of the campus master plan. I am now delighted to be in a position to endorse the Dig Deep Project which will see the building of the sports precinct.

As Chairman of the Planning Committee in the early 90’s I oversaw the development of several major new buildings on the campus such as the rebuilding of the Junior School and the magnificent Centennial Building. Construction of these facilities was only possible through the generosity of previous generations of parents and friends of the school.

Now is the time to regenerate that spirit of philanthropy within the Diocesan community in order for the school to keep pace with the demand for world-class educational facilities.

I truly hope the Diocesan School community embraces this exciting and innovative project and leave a legacy that will benefit both current and future students.

It is with much pleasure that I endorse this exciting development of the sports facilities for Diocesan School.  The school has been a wonderful part of my life, the source of great pride and opportunity from a number of different perspectives.

As a student at Dio I developed my love of sport, particularly swimming, hockey, and tennis through the encouragement and support of dedicated coaches and outstanding role models.  Subsequently as a member of staff teaching physical education I was able to encourage and develop the sporting skills of students in my care and assist them to achieve their potential.

More recently as a parent I have been amazed at the opportunities offered to the girls through the physical education curriculum and sports programme. As a member of the School Board I have been able to make a significant contribution to the School and more directly to the development of this project which is dear to my heart.
