An Evening with Sean Fitzpatrick
Sean Fitzpatrick Launches His New Book - Winning Matters
“Be the best you can”
On Tuesday 14 June, Parents and Friends of Diocesan and Dymocks Newmarket in conjunction with Penguin Publishers hosted a relaxed 'a drink and a pie' evening for the launch of Sean Fitzpatrick’s latest book, Winning Matters.
Diocesan Dads came with their 'mates' as suggested in the invitation, wives, children and friends to listen to Sean Fitzpatrick, who was being interviewed on stage by Hamish McKay.
Hamish did a great job at leading a casual yet very interesting conversation with Sean, followed by questions from the audience.
Sean spoke about the strong influence of his Dad and support from his family through his career and the fact that his Dad encouraged him from an early age to play a team sport and make sure he enjoyed it. He remembers kicking the ball in the backyard with his brother, who, privilege of age, was the one wearing the All Blacks tee shirt at the time, whilst Sean had to grab any other one!
Key messages from Sean are to be prepared to look hard at yourself and change to achieve greater goals, to be proudly as successful as you can be, and if you can’t always win, to at least give it your best shot. He insisted on the values of honesty, integrity and respect, all key to being an All Black.
He advised to celebrate your successes, but to always remember your losses and your feelings at the time, so that you never feel that way again!
When asked about his feelings about the coming world cup, he shared, that winning would take a combination of youth and experience, as well as leadership throughout the team.
Feedback on the event has been very positive, with guests celebrating the qualities and humour of the guest speaker and the interviewer, as well as the friendly and relaxed nature of the event. Generous sponsorship was provided by Pernod Ricard and their donation of premium Brancott Estate wine beautifully displayed in the bar area.
Thank you also to Coca Cola Amatil for providing cold Peroni and donating all non alcoholic beverages, as well as to Dymocks Newmarket for a great raffle of books. Our thanks go to all those who made the event possible.
