What is the School’s recruitment and selection policy?

All vacancies which arise are advertised internally to current staff members and are advertised externally through appropriate media as necessary. Teaching vacancies are advertised in the Education Gazette published by the Ministry of Education. Non-teaching vacancies are advertised in relevant publications.

The selection process seeks to match candidates’ skill and knowledge with the job criteria and also their fit with the ethos and culture of the school. This is achieved through a three stage process of application review and short-listing, interview and skills testing (if appropriate) and reference checking. Additionally the school validates the current standing of applicants for teaching roles with the the NZ Teachers' Council. Depending on the level of the post more than one interview may be required. The school expects that senior faculty staff will participate in the selection of all teaching staff and that senior managers will be involved in all other appointments. Senior appointments require involvement of the board of governors.

What documents are required?

Candidates should complete an application form and additionally submit a detailed curriculum vitae and a covering letter. The information provided will be evaluated in comparison with the position specification and criteria for the purpose of short listing. If successful in being appointed, candidates will be asked to complete an application for a police check and to provide copies of their qualification certificates, residence visa and drivers licence.

Are job interviews held?

Candidates who are short-listed will be invited to attend an interview at the school. Interviews are conducted by a panel of two or more staff members and candidates will be informed of the panel composition when interview arrangements are made. A second interview may be required for final selection.

Do I need referees?

Applicants are asked to nominate three referees who can be contacted by the school as part of the selection process. Candidates for teaching roles are expected to nominate their current principal as one of their referees.

How will I be told the outcome of my application?

Candidates will be notified as soon as possible of the outcome of their application. Applicants who are not short-listed will receive a letter or email advising them; those who attend an interview will be contacted by phone to be told the outcome.
