Dance & Drama

In addition to the opportunities in the Performing Arts that are offered by Drama and Music as curriculum subjects, extra curricular activities in this area that are available to students include the following:

Smokefree Stage Challenge (an annual inter-school dance-drama competition)
Diocesan Shakespeare Festival (entries are chosen to go forward to the Regional Sheilah Winn Shakespeare in Schools Festival).
Regional Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival (winning entries at the regional contest participate at the national festival in Wellington).
Dance Challenge
House Dance (inter-house competitions as part of House Music contest)
Improv (weekly theatresports group)
Kapa Haka (Te Reo Maori cultural group)
Productions (annual productions may include musicals and dramatic plays at various year levels and co-productions with Dilworth School).

Private Speech and Drama Lessons

A range of excellent itinerant speech and drama teacher’s work in the School offering lessons during and, to a limited extent, outside school hours. Classes are generally taught in groups of four. While the School acts as an intermediary, the lessons are contracted individually with the teacher. Students may be prepared for examinations as part of their course.
