Last weekend, senior students Lizzie Shapland and Mia Barker competed at the Ocean Bridge NZL Sailing Regatta in the 29er Youth Field, for trials into the 2022 New Zealand Youth Sailing Team.
After four days of racing, Lizzie and her partner Lucy Leith from Rangitoto College sailed extremely well and comfortably took out the girls’ 29er class and Mia was able to finish in third place. Lizzie has now been invited by Yachting New Zealand to represent the country in the 29er class at the Youth Worlds in The Hague, Netherlands in July. After missing out on going last year due to COVID-19, we are hopeful Lizzie will be able represent New Zealand this time round!
