Prefect’s vision for 2015
Each year our Year 13’s develop a goal that they work together to achieve over the course of the year. This year’s theme is for Dio to Make it happen! Head Prefect Alice Tilley explains what this means to the Year 13 group.

I remember my first day in year one very clearly. I wasn’t so worried about maths or how my left handed writing was going to go; instead my goal was to find a friend to play with me at morning tea and lunch. It was that first day 13 years ago that I decided to take a risk and ask one of my classmates if she wanted to play on the moon hoppers with me at morning tea. From day one we stuck together and Lucy and I are still best friends thirteen years later, however, she doesn’t want to play with me on the moon hoppers anymore.

We learn a lot by getting up and doing things, getting out of our comfort zone and setting goals. We learnt this through last year’s theme of SUP, stand up, empower me, empower you, empower us. This year we plan to build on that together, for 2015 our theme is make it happen.

There are many ways that you can learn to make it happen as an individual, as a group and as a school. You can make it happen by seeking excellence in all you do. Excellence is not a skill it is an attitude. Make it happen by building and challenging your knowledge through curiosity, asking questions and thinking critically, creatively and reflectively. Make it happen by inspiring confidence in not only yourselves but in others. Remember Confidence is like a muscle –the more you use it the stronger it gets. Make it happen by being you, being honest and being true to yourself. Make it happen by caring, living out our School Motto Ut Serviamus in our everyday lives and relationships, having a generous spirit and culture of service to others.

So make it happen, your adventures start today, make the most of what is offered at Dio and I promise you will have the best time. Always remember, you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think.

Make today your first day. As you start the next period take a look like it’s the first time you are walking into that class again. What is your passion? What goals will you set? What can you do to make it happen for you?

Whatever you want to do, you have the power and you can make it happen.

So get out there, be involved, ask questions, be curious, have the confidence to aim high and work hard. What can you do today that’s going to inch you even closer towards your goal? What are you going to do differently to make it Happen?

Some wish for it to happen and others make it happen. It is all about trial and error, mistakes will be made, but don’t worry that only means you’re trying, pick yourself up, do it again and again and embark on the journey of making it happen.

2015 is the year to take every opportunity big and small, stand up, challenge yourself and make it happen.
