Dio students have once again gained exceptional results in New Zealand’s top Scholarship examinations, with a particularly strong showing from year 12 students taking the exams one year early.
Madeleine Law and Aadhya Lahoty, both year 12, took out awards for Top in Country, in History and Spanish respectively, while year 13 student Samantha Fowler was named one of the top overall scholars in New Zealand.
Samantha gained Scholarships in Classical Studies, English and History, with two of those marked as Outstanding. She was only one of 49 students in New Zealand to be awarded an Outstanding Scholar Award.
Madeleine gained a perfect score in History to take out the accolade of Top in Country. This the second year in a row that Diocesan has taken out this award. The school has a track record of excelling in History and 2017 was no exception with a total of 13 students sitting the History exam and 12 of them gaining a Scholarship.
Aadhya Lahoty was awarded Top in Country for Spanish and was the only student in New Zealand to be awarded an Outstanding result, an incredible feat for a non-native speaker. She also gained scholarships in Biology, English and Geography, making her one of Dio’s top scholars, alongside year 12 student, He Min Lee, who was awarded scholarships in Biology, English, Geography and History.
In total, Dio students were awarded 63 Scholarships including 10 Outstandings. Other highlights include:
-Three scholarships in Music out of just 43 nationwide
-Seven scholarships in Design and Visual Communication – 1 in 6 awarded nationally
With approximately 3 per cent of Year 13 students studying each subject at Level 3 awarded Scholarship, Dio’s results and particularly the achievements of the year 12 students, are impressive.
