As part of Young Enterprise Scheme, Dio teams had two groups competing in the finals out of the top seven businesses for the region.
Period., a business made up of Year 12 students Phebe Mason, Kate Wellington and Sarah Young picked up the Excellence in Sustainability award for their business which focused on breaking the stigma around period poverty and using discarded sanitary pad wrappers to create wallets instead of seeing the wrappers end up in landfill. Phebe also won the Central Auckland EY Individual of the Year; a wonderful achievement.
That’s a Wrap, created by Phoebe Chow and Nancy-Jie Yin, produced a vegan food wrap made from hemp fabric and coconut oil. They took home the Excellence in Food and Beverage category and need to be commended for their perseverance and commitment to the programme.
This year Dio had 13 business teams as part of the competition which found Covid-19 challenges with production and getting themselves to market, much like many other businesses in the ‘real world’. Well done to all the girls who participated.
