Dio orienteering season heading in the right direction
Well done to our intrepid orienteers on their start-of-season podium places

On Sunday 1 May, eight intrepid Dio orienteers travelled to Te Miro to participate in a Rugged Rogaine. This is an orienteering competition whereby you need to collect as many controls as you can in a given time frame, so involves strategy and planning, as well as navigation skills. Much fun and some mud was experienced by all, as they walked or jogged up and down some very steep hills. Everybody returned, which is a fantastic starting point! The Dio Dynamos (Aless Nicholson, Laura Bunbury and Mandipa Mhuka) gained third place in the Junior Team category, narrowly beaten by the Dio Boys (Sam Carryer and Matthew Greenwood). To their enormous surprise, team Mums Orienteer Too (Susy Carryer and Diane Cheung) came third in the Women’s Team category. As the more formal school orienteering competitions begin this term, we look forward to more fun, more mud, and perhaps some more podium places.
