Every Dio student is given the opportunity to be involved in real-life experiences that build on their learning through Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC).

Students can choose from hands-on experiences, activities and learning opportunities that grow their confidence and self-esteem.

Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) is an annual event that takes place in Term 1. Students participate in a week-long programme of varied activities, educational opportunities and experiences outside the classroom.

About EOTC

The aims of our EOTC programme are:

  • Encourage personal development and awareness by building self-esteem and confidence
  • Develop students’ social skills by co-operating within small groups of their peers
  • Develop sound ecological attitudes based on respect, knowledge and understanding
  • Develop outdoor skills in camp craft, bush walking, canoeing and rock climbing
  • Enrich and integrate other academic disciplines

Our Hope

Our hope is that students, armed with the necessary skills, confidence and positive memories of their EOTC experiences, find the outdoors a place where they can gain great enjoyment and fulfilment throughout their lives. Each year level has different activities and themes that these activities link back to.

Year 11

Focuses on the theme of Exploring and discovering new possibilities. Students will

  • Have the confidence to participate in activities and go beyond their comfort zone
  • Develop a greater sense of year level community by participating with enthusiasm in every aspect of the camp
  • Persevere and show resilience when facing challenges

Year 12

Focuses on leadership and valuing and understanding diversity. Students will

  • Make connections in our local community to challenge perceptions and broaden perspectives
  • Take personal responsibility to use appropriate interpersonal skills to act and respond in diverse environments
  • Understand the link between diversity and leadership

Year 13

Focuses on the theme of thinking and moving beyond boundaries. Students will

  • Reflect and be challenged to explore the contribution they can make to the future
  • Act with integrity, show honesty, responsibility and accountability through ethical decision making
  • Adopt an attitude which enables them to embrace learning, and new experiences
