Opportunities for everyone

We encourage all girls to be involved in the arts, not only as a creative outlet but also to enhance their learning and social development. Having a Performing Arts Director means we maximise the co-curricular learning, performing and mentoring opportunities of all students, from beginners to high-fliers.

Dio students regularly compete, perform and excel at regional and national levels. Specialist teachers in instrumental music, singing and speech, dance and drama, encourage students to take examinations and performing arts teaching is strong at every level.

Music

Diocesan has a long and illustrious tradition of producing outstanding musicians in both vocal and instrumental music. The co-curricular music programme encourages students to explore different musical genres (such as rock, classical and jazz) in a supportive environment.

A team of excellent and professional itinerant music teachers offer lessons during and outside school hours. While the school acts as an intermediary, the lessons are contracted individually with the teacher. All orchestral instruments, voice and a range of rock band instruments are offered. Students regularly enter music examinations with ABRSM, Trinity Guildhall and Rockschool.

Dance and Drama

Regular dance workshops are part of our Gifted and Talented programme and dance is well represented through our cultural groups. Dio offers students a range of drama and music opportunities as curriculum subjects, as well as many co-curricular activities.

Our drama and dance students have excelled in competitions including the school’s Shakespeare Festival, the Sheilah Winn Festival of Shakespeare in Schools and Stage Challenge competitions. Year 11, 12 and 13 students also present plays within the school as part of their drama curriculum.
