Our Pastoral Care goes beyond classmates to include housemates, buddies, tutors, teachers, Deans, Chaplains and family. That support network is about looking out for our students and looking after them when they need it – and it’s a big part of what makes Dio different.
We offer counselling, health and chaplaincy services, careers advice and personalised tutoring. There is always someone on hand for care and advice, for your daughter and your family, as you journey through Dio together.
We have Deans for each year level who are an important link between parents and our School and provide both leadership and guidance for all of our girls. Students also have House-based tutor groups with others in their year.
They meet with their tutor every day which helps build a strong, trusted relationship and creates a place to talk openly about wellbeing and individual goal setting. If anything comes up, our tutors are the first point of contact for students.
Taking care of yourself starts with letting others help, so Dio has a dedicated team of three counsellors ready to support staff and students in any way they need.
By listening, offering support and helping you make a plan you’ll be heard, and cared for in a way that’s unique to you.
‘Circle and Orientation Leaders’ are senior students who have undertaken training to support all students in Year 7 and new to Dio students in year 9, by helping them to settle into a new school, or new year level.
The Year 12 Circle Leaders meet the Year 7s in their House at the Welcome Picnic. They also meet during some Tutor Times and lead Circle discussions about matters related to student life and Dio culture which are important in integrating into a new school. The Circle Leaders continue to have the role of “Older Sisters” to the students throughout the year.
Year 13 Orientation Leaders support students who are new to the school in year 9. They meet with them in term one and assist with their induction into the school.
All students in Years 8-13 who are new to the school receive an invitation to a Morning Tea on the Friday before the school year starts. Here they meet their Year Level Dean who assigns them a Buddy from their Tutor group.
The Buddy will meet the new student on the first day of school, introduce them to other students and help them find their way in the first few weeks of school. That means your daughter will always have someone to talk to and a friendly face to help her settle into a new school year.
Our Anglican heritage underpins our vision and who we are as a school community. Our Chaplains are an everyday part of school life, helping nurture faith and personal growth and encouraging our girls to think deeply about the intellectual, moral and social questions that play out all around them.
Our Chaplains offer a confidential Christian presence for our students, staff and wider school community.
Every girl at Dio will join one of eight School Houses, each with its own colours, badge and motto. Our Houses build a close sense of community and belonging but there is always a place for friendly competition and teamwork. We hold inter-House challenges in Sports, Music, Dance and Debating and at the end of each year, the House with the most points takes away the Stark Cup.
Our motto is Ut Serviamus, which is Latin for ‘That we may serve’. We do our best to live that out by helping others in our community and beyond.
Each year, we get involved with local, national and international charities. We also have a Giving Programme that encourages our girls to share their time and talents to support the work of community aid organisations.
Our registered nurse on duty at our Health Centre between 8.00am and 3.30pm, Monday to Friday is available to all students for their care. If any student has any health concerns she should see our nurse. Our nurse will contact parents if any student is not well enough to be at school and if there are any concerns regarding her health. Updated information gained from parents enables our nurse to best care for each student and keeps them safe. Our nurse works closely with our pastoral team and may be involved in meetings where health concerns are being addressed.
Our learning area for all learners ‘to gather strength.’ This department supports all learners by offering a variety of pathways to support our neurodiverse students; students needing extra support for recovery; students wishing to extend their learning and for our gifted students. Students may self-refer, or be referred by parents or by teachers. It is a place to find the best strategies; bolster confidence and develop the skills for lifelong learning.
