Behind every great school is a great team of people. We'd love for you to join ours.

You’ll play an important role in living out our school values, inspiring excellence and engaging positively with our community. Diocesan is led by a team of approximately 260 teachers and support staff. They are well-supported and work in a well-resourced environment.

Our staff enjoy state-of-the-art facilities, attractive surroundings, a central location and good remuneration. Other benefits include use of the library, gym and sporting facilities and opportunities for professional and personal development.

“I absolutely love Dio. It allows me to meet and interact with a broad range of connections including alumnae, parents, donors and students. Dio is also a place that has become my family away from home, and for that I am very grateful.”

Kate Eatts, Development and Community Relations Manager

“What makes Dio a great school is the students willingness to learn. The school community support behind the Mātauranga Māori, Te Reo Māori and Kapa Haka has been amazing and I am blessed to be a part of it. ”

Kali Haenga, Junior School Te Reo Teacher and Kapa Haka Lead

“At Dio, our ideas are innovative and reflect best practice across all schools. It is inspiring to be part of such a forward-thinking collaborative and inclusive environment. ”

School-Based Teacher Training

Dio is part of a new model of teacher education currently in place at several Auckland secondary schools, with a unique focus on immersive and innovative learning in key subject areas. The Auckland Schools’ Teacher Training Programme for the one-year Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching was developed jointly by a group of 12 Auckland secondary schools, including Dio, and the University of Waikato in 2020.

Trainees studying under the immersive programme learning on the job. They initially shadow a teacher and observe their classes while being involved behind the scenes. Course content is delivered online by the University of Waikato, while mentoring, professional development and placement opportunities are provided by the school who also cover the trainees’ fees.

Frequently asked questions
What is your recruitment and selection policy?

All vacancies are first advertised internally to current staff members and then externally through appropriate media as necessary. Teaching vacancies are advertised in the Education Gazette published by the Ministry of Education. You can also find our current vacancies here

How do I apply for a position?

Candidates should complete an application form and submit a detailed curriculum vitae with a covering letter. To prepare our shortlist, we will evaluate the information you provide alongside the position specification and criteria.

If you are selected for a position, we would then ask you to complete a police check and provide copies of your qualification certificates, residence visa and drivers licence.

What is your interview process?

Candidates who are shortlisted are invited to attend an interview at the school. Interviews are conducted by a panel of two or more staff members. Candidates are told who is on the panel when interview arrangements are made. A second interview may be required for final selection.

The selection process seeks to match candidates’ skills and knowledge with the job criteria and also looks at their fit with the culture of the school. This is achieved through a three stage process:

  • application review and shortlisting
  • reference checking
  • interview and skills testing (if appropriate)

The school also validates the current standing of applicants for teaching roles with the New Zealand Teachers Council.

Senior faculty staff participate in the selection of all teaching staff; and senior managers are involved in all other appointments. The board of governors is also involved when recruiting senior appointments.

Do you do reference checks?

We ask applicants to nominate three referees the school can contact as part of the selection process. We expect candidates for teaching roles to include their current principal as one of their referees.

When will I know the outcome of my application?

We will notify you as soon as possible of the outcome of your application. If you are shortlisted for an interview we will contact you by phone. Unsuccessful applicants will be notified by letter or email.
