This prestigious event showcased the school’s finest singers, with finalists from Years 7 to 13 carefully selected from more than fifty talented entrants — many of whom took to the solo stage for the very first time.
We were honoured to welcome Sarah Mileham as our adjudicator. Recognised as one of New Zealand’s most captivating young operatic voices, Sarah is a celebrated soloist with NZ Opera and a recipient of numerous distinguished awards. Her breathtaking performance of Puccini’s beloved aria “O mio babbino caro” was a highlight of the evening.
While the adjudicator deliberated, the audience was treated to another stunning performance by the St Cecilia Singers, who presented their award-winning, newly commissioned Pasifika work, Le Tupulaga o Aotearoa.
The evening offered a rich tapestry of exquisite solo performances complemented by beautiful choral singing, highlighting both technical skill and expressive artistry. This event continues to inspire students to engage deeply with classical vocal repertoire, performing in the original languages with stylistic and interpretive authenticity.
