Years 9-13 | Amnesty International Group at Dio is for Year 9-13 students dedicated to defending human rights, ensuring justice, and advocating for freedom and dignity for all. As high school students, we have the power to challenge injustices and amplify voices that are silenced. Our group offers a platform to engage with global activism for those affected by human rights abuses. By joining, you can become part of a global movement that believes in the power of youth to make a difference—because no one is too young to fight for justice. We will run awareness campaigns, host guest speakers, and organize events to engage our community. Each term, we will focus on a specific issue where our activism can make an impact. We offer a place where you can share and recommend anime you like to other people and openly talk about anime and manga you enjoy. We also welcome people who have never watched anime before, this can be a chance for you to have a try!

Year 10 | Battle of the Bibliophiles is a Year 10 reading competition organised by the creators of The Slanza Readers Cup. Schools entering the competition will need a team of up to 6 students and can enter more than one team if they choose. The battle will be held online as an one-off digital competition at the beginning of Term 4. | |

Every Friday at lunchtime in C1.37. We have a range of Boardgames for people to play. Including: Exploding Kittens, Ticket to Ride – London Underground, Throw Throw Burrito, Calico Cats, UNO, Monopoly Deal, Bananagrams, Outburst and many more! We also have a puzzle that we have been working on since the start 2024!
Each week, there is a Game Of The Week, where you can learn how to play a new game from one of BGC Committee members. |

We will be performing in many exciting school events throughout the year including Culture Night and Night of Dance, and we will get to dance with fans 🪭🪭 | |
Years 7-13 | The Dio Composers Club is for anybody interested in composing instrumental or choral music, or anybody with an interest in classical music. Dio Composers Club is a place to share and workshop current projects, as well as develop key compositional skills and technique.

Years 7-13 | The Debating Club is for Year 7 and 8 – come along when you like at a lunchtime and enjoy learning about public speaking and debate. For Years 9 – 13 you may be eligible for selection into an inter school team. Teams are organised in February each year and involve debating against other schools in the region in the Auckland Schools Debating competition. There are other weekend tournaments open to Years 9 – 13 which come up across the year and makes speakers available for selection into regional and national teams. | |

Years 9-10 | EPro8 Science & Technology Challenge
Providing opportunity to complete challenges using Maths, Science, Engineering, robotics and electronics. Develops teamwork and problem solving skills. This involves students forming a team of four that meets every fortnight to practise their building skills and preparation for a competition during term 2. |

Years 7-13 | We run Ethics events across the school, and all throughout the school calendar. Students can be involved in small group events such as the Ethics Olympiad, or school wide events such as our annual Soapbox competitions or the DioThrifts second hand clothing sale. Overseen by Mrs Berry Eden, and our Ethics Council, we love to see everyone getting involved and thinking ethically. | |
Years 7-13 | A national competition developing understanding and knowledge of global and community issues, the underlying problems, and how to create positive solutions to those issues. Successful teams and individuals have the opportunity to qualify for the international Future Problem Solving competition. | |

Korean Culture Club We will be initiating and assisting an inclusive environment for students to be able to learn about the Korean culture and language beyond just the western portrayal of Korean “culture”. As Korean is not a subject language available to students in DIO, we believe that this club will establish at least a basic understanding of Korean culture and language. Legal Mooting is the process of establishing whether a case has the merit to go to trial. It is also used as an exercise for lawyers to learn how to build and defend a legal argument. There is currently an annual competition for secondary students, the Auckland Schools Legal Mooting Competition. In the 3 years since the competition began, Dio senior teams have made it to the Finals every year. In 2023, the Junior team also made it to the Finals.
We also have a team entering the Australian National Mooting Competition online each year. |

Year 9 | Readers’ Cup is a reading competition designed for Year 9 students. Teams of four students (+one reserve) together read a set of six books and then compete with other school teams to answer quiz questions from these books. The main purpose is for the students to get out of their comfort zone and read books that they wouldn’t necessary read otherwise. | |

Years 7-13 | T-Pop Thai Dance Group: TDC is a dance group that dances to the modern Thai Pop’s latest hits. Thai Pop, or T-Pop, is a pop music genre from Thailand, similar to American Pop and K-Pop. Think Tate McRae and Sabrina Carpenter. If you like dancing, hip-hop, or just want to try something new and fun, come and join us! Our main performance will be at school events such as Culture Night. No prior dance experience required. Our goal is to promote T-Pop and create a space for committed dancers who want to showcase their skills and have fun. We hope to see you there! | |
Years 7-10 | Work in teams of seven people to offer a creative solution to a scenario. Training is offered in Term 2, with the competition taking place across the first five weeks of Term 3. In 2023 Dio had a team travel to Australia for the International Finals. | |
Years 12-13 | Tūakana Tēina is a mentoring initiative where Year 12 and 13 students tutor younger students from Years 7 to 11 in science. This program takes place every Wednesday lunchtime during term time, providing a dedicated time for learning and support. The sessions are held in the Science Whānau Space, creating a welcoming environment for both tūakana (mentors) and tēina (mentees) to engage in collaborative learning. | |
Years 7-13 | The Diocesan Visual Arts Society (DVAS) is a student-led organisation aimed at creating a welcoming space where Dio student artists can showcase their creativity and talents in the visual arts. Students from year 7-13 are all welcomed. We’ll be running activities that include digital exhibitions, school and community-based exhibitions, and workshops to explore different types of visual arts. This isn’t a regular club activity—anyone interested can register through the registration form and will become part of the initiative. If you sign up and submit at least two pieces of artwork or participate in one exhibition/workshop, you will become a member of the group. | |
