Diocesan sent four students to the New Zealand Secondary Schools Cross Country championships in Palmerston North last weekend. What initially looked like a brisk, sunny day turned into a downpour at the start of the race. However it quickly passed and left us with a cold but sunny winter day. The event started with the Junior Girls category, in which Hannah McManus represented. Dio. Hannah had an awesome race and came 12th out of 75 runners in the junior category, which was 2nd in her age group.
In the Year 9 girls age group, Dio put forward Cerys Findlow, Indie Williams and Maddie Worrall as both individuals and a team of three. The Year 9 category had almost 90 runners which make the following results even more impressive:
Maddie finished in 4th place and Indie finished closely behind to take 5th. Cerys’s race was amazing and she took 34th overall.
Their three-person team came 1st in the Year 9 category as well. All Diocesan students competing were selected to represent Auckland in the regional relay teams on Sunday morning. Sunday saw more rain for team relay races, which made for a slippery course. Hannah’s Auckland Junior B team came in 6th, Cerys also came in 6th for their category, and Maddie and Indie’s Auckland Year 9 A team took 2nd. Congratulations on a very successful weekend to Cerys, Hannah, Indie and Maddie.
