During the July school holidays, several of our top dancers from Diocesan, Paris-Lily Foster Y10, Stephanie Zhang Y11, Caitlin Caird Y7 and Keira Caird Y4 spent an exciting week down in Christchurch competing alongside the very best dancers from NZ at the New Zealand Dance Award Finals.
It is a huge achievement to be selected for the Dance Award Finals and we had some stunning successes!
Paris-Lily Foster was awarded the 2023 Senior NZ Top Dancer title. This is quite exceptional!
She competed in both jazz and tap (16 solo performances & 3 troupes) and won the Senior Tap Scholarship and the top prize. This was Paris’s first year competing as a senior alongside many outstanding and inspiring NZ dancers.
Paris’s jazz teams from Neverland studios both also made it through to the finals and one took the top overall prize of highest scoring troupe.
Stephanie Zhang gained 2 Gold Awards, including 2nd place for her lyrical solo. This is a fabulous win for Stephanie!
Keira Caird competed in the Top Dancer Award for the Petite age category and placed 2nd. Another amazing achievement!
This year the Top Dancer winners were also awarded the most beautiful korowais in addition to a number of generous scholarships, vouchers and prizes. This is so special for Paris and an absolute honour to have until handover next year.
