Saturday 12 June saw two teams from Dio enter the Fencing North Secondary School Foil Team’s event. Twenty-two teams entered, including eight women’s teams.
For three of the Dio girls, this was their first teams competition and first or second fencing competition.
Dio B, comprising of Wendy and Joanna Chen (Year 9) led by captain Kennedy Howse (Year 12) beat Avondale College Girls in the pools 45 -21 and finished 5th after fencing Kristin Doves B in the quarter finals.
Dio A, comprising of Vanessa Huang (Year 10) Alice Sharpe (Year 11) and captained by Chantelle May (Year 12) won both pool matches, then went on to beat Epsom Girls’ A (Scrambled EGGS) in the semi-finals 45-24, then Kristin A 45-36 in the final. Both teams were supported by coach Rory Ogg.
