We were delighted to hear our girls sing in Holy Trinity Cathedral – it is a spectacular venue and the acoustics are outstanding for choral music. The Adjudicator this year was Fiona Wilson who is a conductor and educator from Auckland. Fiona is a soprano for Voices New Zealand Chamber Choir and under the mentorship of its artistic director Dr Karen Grylls.
On Wednesday night our Virtuoso Voce Choir were invited to sing a beautiful and enchanting piece especially prepared for them called “Silver” by well-known songwriter David Hamilton. This was part of their presentation to the adjudicator earlier in the day that included “Stars I Shall Find” by M.C.W. Bell and “The Beat of a Different Drum” by Sarah Quartel.
Their presentation of “Silver” was both complex and magical creating a beautiful atmosphere with bird song and cicada sounds. It was a brilliant evening with this choir taking out the top awards:
We congratulate our fabulous Conductor Andrea Creighton and accompanist Soomin Kim who support these girls to be at their best.
In addition to this, on Tuesday night the Junior School Choir also took out the top awards in their categories:
We can definitely say that choral music at Diocesan is more than just humming! Congratulations to Shelagh Thompson, Andrea Creighton, Jono Palmer and all the parents who have supported our students to achieve excellence.
