Dio’s new Triathlon Programme had a team of three girls competing in the first round of the People’s Tri Series out at Maraetai. Unfortunately the minimum age was 12, which meant the team could have been larger if the younger girls were eligible to race. All three Dio girls had very good races in challenging, hot conditions.
Molly Sherrard competed in the aqua bike event, which is swimming and cycling only (as she is nursing a running injury). She won the U-16 class and held her own against most of the adults.
Juliet Harland won the 15-16 years Try a Tri category.
Georgia Hair was in a very competitive 16 & Under Sprint Tri category, against the cream of all Auckland schools. She finished a very creditable fifth place.
The six race event People’s Tri Series continues next month, with a race at Mission Bay, and the girls will be hungry for more success there too.
If you feel inspired to discuss the sport of triathlon, which is swimming, cycling and running, please see James Mortimer in the Sports Office or email the coach Sam Gardner on [email protected].
