Our guest speaker Alexis Pritchard was inspiring as she shared her journey as a world class boxing athlete.
Alexis began life in South Africa and took up the challenge of boxing in New Zealand. She was supported and encouraged by her mother to become one of New Zealand’s most accomplished boxers.
It was an incredible journey of hard work and resilience, as she worked to overcome the self-doubt messages. She challenged our audience with “you dare” captions about finding what success looks like for you, about failing and learning, and about taking time to refresh.
Alexis said “ I had 142 fights as a boxer over 16 years. So many of those early years of competition were clouded with doubt in my abilities and nerves.”
Her worst nightmare was public speaking, but we can all say that she has mastered the art of delivering excellent meaningful messages to today’s young women.
Alexis’s stories epitomised what is possible when you put in the effort and mindset to believe that anything is possible.
Alexis shared her worst and best moments as she became the first New Zealand woman boxer to win an Olympic bout. Her achievements as a world champion are exceptional and she proudly shared aspects of her journey that make her a brilliant role model for all women athletes.
Thank you to Robin Bell – chair of Parents and Friends – and all the volunteers who achieved a fantastic morning of shared Father Daughter time together. We appreciated the challenge of setting up over the weekend to host and facilitate such a fantastic start to the week.
It was lovely to see one Dad and daughter walking into the venue arm in arm together – thank you to all who attended.
