On Friday 20 February, the crew that won gold in the Women’s Club Eight at the North Island Club Championships travelled to Lake Karapiro to compete at the New Zealand Rowing Championships.
The regatta provided an excellent opportunity to test themselves against the country’s top club crews.
Representing Auckland Rowing Club, the Dio girls produced a superb performance. Leading from the opening stroke, they faced strong pressure from Hamilton Rowing Club before making a decisive move in the third 500 metres to extend their lead to one length. The crew held firm to claim the gold medal and the prestigious David Husband Memorial Cup.
This outstanding achievement builds strong momentum for the wider squad as they prepare for the North Island Secondary School Regatta (6–8 March).
