This was an extraordinary success competing against co-educational schools who can enter twice as many races.
A week ago, the girls also performed admirably at the Auckland Rowing Championships held over a very wet weekend at Lake Karapiro near Cambridge. The girls secured 7 gold medals, a silver medal and 6 bronze medals in the many events. It was great training before our next competitions.
The Under 18 girls won gold in the coxed eight. The team also took a one-day trip last Friday to the club championships at Karapiro – up against adult club rowers. They stormed home to securely win another gold medal. Their fitness and expertise is going well as the head coaches Caspar Hammond and Franklin Hamilton ready the squad for the North Islands early March and this year’s Maadi Regatta which is in Twizel. While we are hoping for history to repeat, we are aware of the very strong South Island teams. Go Dio!
The Diocesan rowing squad has enjoyed outstanding recent success, winning both Top Girls’ School and Overall Top School at the Head of Harbour on Lake Pupuke—an impressive feat against co-educational schools able to enter twice as many races. The team also excelled at the wet Auckland Rowing Championships at Lake Karapiro, earning 7 gold, 1 silver, and 6 bronze medals. The Under 18 girls’ coxed eight claimed gold, and the squad secured another gold at the club championships against adult rowers. With coaches Caspar Hammond and Franklin Hamilton preparing the team for the North Islands and the Maadi Regatta in Twizel, momentum is strong. Go Dio!
