A science-informed session for parents and whānau on connection, communication, and emotional wellbeing.
Adolescence is a time of rapid change—physically, emotionally, and socially—and it can feel as complex for parents and whānau as it does for the young people themselves. In a world where teens are constantly navigating the pressure to achieve, belong, and keep pace—particularly online—how do we support them to move beyond simply coping, and towards deeper connection with themselves and others?
Grounded in contemporary research from Positive Psychology and the science of wellbeing, this session explores how emotional literacy can strengthen the parent-teen relationship, even during moments of tension or withdrawal. Together, we’ll examine the foundations of attuned communication, emotional regulation, and supporting teens to feel secure, connected, and understood—core conditions for healthy adolescent development.
We’ll also explore the evolving impact of social media on teen identity, wellbeing, and relationships, and offer strategies for open, trust-based dialogue that keeps the lines of communication intact—even in a digital-first world.
This is not a prescriptive approach or a search for perfection. It’s an opportunity to strengthen the way we show up—for ourselves and for our teens—because they deserve to feel more than just “okay,” and so do we.
