Returning to B Grade for 2025, the team set their sights on improving their placing and building on the momentum from their Premier School competition success.
The team began their campaign with confidence, securing three pool-play wins against Lynfield, Sacred Heart Girls, and Mt Roskill Grammar. These victories earned them a spot in the Top 16 of B Grade.
Day 3 opened with a narrow two-point loss to Whakatane, a result that ignited fresh determination. Bouncing back, Dio delivered commanding wins over Gisborne, Kerikeri, and Botany Downs, showcasing both skill and composure.
On the final day, Dio faced undefeated Aorere in the semi-final. In a thrilling, goal-for-goal battle, relentless full-court defensive pressure swung momentum their way in the last quarter. The team edged out a 37–35 victory to earn a place in the B Grade Final.
The final saw Dio meet Whakatane once again. As expected, the game was fiercely contested right until the final minute. Despite their grit, Dio fell just short, losing 29–30 in heartbreaking fashion. Still, they proudly finished as B Grade Silver Medalists and Runners-Up.
Importantly, the team achieved one of their season goals: qualification back into A Grade for 2026. This milestone marks a fantastic all-round effort and a testament to the team’s hard work, resilience, and unity.
