Outstanding Results at the New Zealand Track & Field Championships
Last week, several Dio students travelled to Bruce Pullman Arena to compete at the 2026 New Zealand Track & Field Championships.

Over four days, more than 860 athletes competed in a packed programme featuring New Zealand’s top athletes alongside emerging age-group talent.

Abigail Bethell (Year 10) competed in the U16 1500m and U16 3000m events, achieving personal best times in both races.

Lucy Bell (Year 11) raced in the U16 1500m, recording a personal best and finishing 19th overall.

Emily Cowan (Year 13) placed 4th in the U20 200m Final, setting a new personal best. She also competed in the U20 400m, as well as the 4x100m and 4x400m relays.

Sophia Haines (Year 13) competed in the U20 800m, 1500m, and the U20 4x400m relay.

Hannah McManus (Year 13) had an impressive championship, placing 2nd in the U18 800m, 3rd in the U18 1500m, and 3rd in the U18 Javelin, where she achieved a personal best distance. She was also a member of the U18 4x400m relay team.

Sina-Maria Su’a (Year 10) delivered an outstanding performance, claiming multiple medals across the weekend. She won 1st place in the U16 Shot Put and U16 Discus, and also took 1st place in the U18 Shot Put and U18 Discus. These results are particularly impressive as Sina-Maria is only 15 years old and was competing against athletes several years older. She also achieved a personal best in the U16 Shot Put with a throw of 16.03m using the 3kg shot.

Congratulations to Abigail, Lucy, Emily, Sophia, Hannah, and Sina-Maria on a very successful championship, and well done on the many placings and personal best performances.
