In 2020, skiing appears to be one of the few sports where there was something approaching a normal season. The snow was generally excellent during the season and they managed to have sufficient races to hold a national championship during the season.
Jessica Finnegan (10CW) spent a lot of Term 3 training in Cardrona, where she was fortunate enough to train in a small group of eight skiers (which included Piera Hudson who has competed in three World Championships and is a great role model). Jess finished the season coming second overall in GS (Giant Slalom) and SL (Slalom) for U16 girls in the National Championships.
Jess has again been selected for the New Zealand Youth Team as Number 2 seed. She is unlikely to travel to Europe this summer because of Covid, so her focus will be on fitness and achieving a life goal of acquiring a summer tan!
Well done Jess on a successful winter ski season!
