Congratulations to Sammy Smith, our Deputy Head Prefect, on her recent surf life saving bronze medal achievement!
Sammy is a qualified surf lifeguard at the Whiritoa Surf Lifeguard Service.
In the Easter holidays, Sammy and her Whiritoa Flippas crew competed in the largest inflatable rescue boat racing competition in the surf life saving calendar, the BP New Zealand IRB Championships held at Waihi Beach on 15 April, against crews from throughout the country. The competition includes several events requiring high levels of technical skill and physical fitness, with constantly changing surf and weather conditions.
Sammy and her crew placed third in the country for the mass event, an awesome achievement in the huge and challenging surf conditions. Well done Sammy, we are proud of you!
