Traveling Light | Art Exhibition
Year 13 student Christine Aixinjueluo’s Traveling Light art exhibition explores personal experience, identity, and growth through the symbolic lens of fish.
This body of work uses fish as a conceptual lens to explore human experience. While they held little personal significance, through the process of research and making, I began to see parallels between fish and people: migration, deception, sacrifice, and survival. These forms became a way to express personal narratives drawn largely from my figure skating journey, both positive and difficult.

The works explore themes of suffering, vulnerability, agency, healing, and the process of growing into identity. Embellished with gems from skating costumes, objects that are visually striking and alluring, enhance the pieces, also revealing the underlying realities of pressure, control, and suppression.

Through developing this series, the process of making has become reflective, shaping my understanding of both art and life. While skating led me to a point where I could channel my experiences into art, art has in turn pushed me to think more deeply, helping me grow as both an individual and an artist.
