Women2Watch Assembly 2025: Stories of Grit and Greatness
The Women2Watch Assembly is an annual tradition at Diocesan, honouring outstanding alumnae (aged under 36) who have demonstrated excellence and shown how the school’s high standards underpin their courage and commitment to succeed.

This year’s recipients were two remarkable 2017 Diocesan graduates, Olympic New Zealand Rower Kate Haines and New Zealand Defence Force 2nd Lieutenant Hannah Brady.

Both women spoke with honesty about the grit it takes to pursue dreams that sit outside the ordinary, from early-morning trainings on the water to the discipline and resilience required in military life.

Kate reflected on the importance of perspective and purpose, reminding students that “whatever your goal might be, there’s something even more important than the moment you achieve it, it’s the journey you take to get there.”

She encouraged them to celebrate progress and stay true to their values, adding, “So my message to you today is simple: whatever your journey looks like, don’t rush through it. Take the time to reflect, to be truly proud, and to enjoy the small wins, even when the path isn’t perfect.”

Hannah inspired the audience to be brave and to have the courage to reimagine themselves when the path they are on does not feel right.

She also shared an important piece of advice: “Never ever turn down an opportunity. It might not be what you expected, it might take you outside of your comfort zone, but it will offer you the chance to do something extraordinary.”

She finished by reflecting on a message that has guided her throughout her life. Her father, Tom Brady, has always told her to “Back yourself,” a phrase that continues to shape the way she approaches every new challenge.

Their stories reminded everyone in attendance that success is not about taking the easiest route but about perseverance, purpose and staying true to your values.

We are incredibly proud of these two Dio alumnae whose courage and character continue to inspire the next generation of young women.
