Why this matters

At Diocesan, we believe in the power of education to shape lives. Yet many talented young women miss out on a world-class education simply because their families can’t afford it. The Ko Tātou Scholarship exists to change that.

Established in 2020 following a wave of community generosity during the pandemic, the scholarship began with a single act of giving. Since then, it has grown into a full programme, supported by Dio families, alumnae, and friends – all united in the belief that financial barriers should never stand in the way of potential.

Today, seven students are thriving at Dio thanks to the Ko Tātou Scholarship.

“… this will change their lives, their families’ lives, and a future generation of lives. We can’t ask for much more than that.”
– Sir Ted Manson, KNZM, philanthropist

Our vision

The Ko Tātou Scholarship enables bright, motivated students to attend Dio from Year 9 through to Year 13 – students who embody our values but would not otherwise have the means to be here. Each full scholarship covers tuition, uniform, co-curricular activities, camps, Dio bus travel, and a laptop – ensuring every student can fully participate in school life.

We aim to support two students in every Senior School year level (10 students at any one time). The total cost is approximately $25,000 per student, per year, amounting to $250,000 annually. Our goal is to raise sufficient funds to ensure this programme can continue year after year, directly supporting students as they move through their time at Dio.

Lotosina Tavui, Head Prefect 2025

“When I first started at Dio, I was a little 9-year-old Samoan kid… slowly I found my footing. I made friends, discovered my passion, and learned to embrace what made me unique – my culture, my perspective, my voice, and my place.”

The impact

Scholarship students bring fresh perspectives, cultural richness, and unique talents that strengthen the fabric of our school. Their presence fosters a more inclusive and dynamic environment for all students. In 2025, there were many applications for just one available place, highlighting the scale of both the need and the opportunity.

How you can help

Every dollar donated goes directly to a student’s education and essential resources. You can support the Ko Tātou Scholarship through a one-off gift, a pledged gift over time, or regular contributions. All gifts, large or small, are welcome and will make a meaningful difference.
