Our three key priorities in sport are participation, competition and high performance. Our philosophy is simple: more girls, more active, more fun, more often.
More than 85 per cent of students take part in our sports programme and many of our students not only discover a passion for their chosen sport but also go on to compete at regional, national and international levels.
Diocesan offers over 30 co-curricular sports codes catering for both participation and high performance athletes.

We also provide opportunities for coaches and officials to grow their expertise. Sport at Dio is strongly supported by the Sports Department, alongside parents and teachers, enabling students to take part in a wide range of sports trips, competitions, and events. We also maintain strong connections with local clubs and regional sporting organisations.
Our participation philosophy is ‘more girls, more active, more fun, more often’. We also want our students to become passionate about their chosen sport and many take it to regional, national and international championship level.
Our Sport Department provides access to outstanding leaders and sports coaches including Angie Winstanley-Smith (Coach of the NZ Water polo team, Great Britain representative in Swimming and Water polo) and Gabby Oloapu (NZ U16 Water polo coach).
