Waiora has an experienced team of staff and excellent programmes to meet a student’s learning needs so your daughter has every opportunity to reach her true potential.
Waiora is open to all students for extra support across the curriculum including help with study techniques, time management and planning strategies. Most of our girls feel comfortable asking for help, but anyone in their wider support network can refer a student to Waiora where students have access to learning programmes, resources and expert guidance.
At Waiora, we work alongside our neurodiverse learners, their whānau, teachers, and other professionals to foster independence, build confidence, and enrich learning. Our guiding whakataukī, “Mā te huruhuru ka rere te manu – Adorn the bird with feathers and it will soar”, captures our belief that with the right support, every learner can thrive.
Students may be referred to Waiora by their parents, dean, teachers, or guidance counsellor—or they may self-refer. Our experienced team creates individualised plans in partnership with whānau and staff to ensure each learner has the support they need.
Support options include:
In the Senior School, gifted learners are supported through a range of extension and acceleration opportunities. Many participate in Future Problem Solving, while others pursue acceleration within the NCEA programme or prepare for NCEA Scholarships.
Students following an accelerated pathway are mentored by a Waiora teacher, ensuring they receive the guidance and strategies needed to balance challenge, wellbeing, and success. These programmes help students stretch their thinking, deepen their learning, and reach their full potential.
