Innes House Celebrates Matariki
The end of Term 2 was marked by Innes House's annual Matariki celebrations, bringing together students, staff, and whānau to welcome the Māori New Year.

The celebrations began with a hīkoi up Maungawhau (Mt Eden), where boarders joined other Dio students, staff, and families. At the summit, participants shared karakia and waiata while learning about the significance of Matariki and how to identify the Matariki star cluster in the night sky.

That evening, the community gathered in the Chapel for a special Matariki service. Rev Robertson encouraged students to reflect on the year so far and consider their aspirations for the months ahead.

Following the service, everyone came together for a shared dinner. Deputy Principal Mr Walker spoke about his family’s Matariki traditions before guest speaker Dr Ihirangi Heke shared his insights into the meaning of Matariki. Dr Heke also led a series of interactive games connected to the occasion, creating an evening filled with learning, laughter, conversation, and waiata.

The Innes House community extends its sincere thanks to Dr Heke and his whānau for sharing their time, knowledge, and traditions.
