Dio’s St Cecilia Singers have taken part in the 2023 Big Sing National Finale at the Auckland Town Hall.

With over 900 participants, this is the largest choral competition in the country, with 8,000 young singers from over 200 schools taking part in regional festivals throughout the month of June.

24 choirs were then selected for the Finale and the goals of the competition were to encourage excellence in choral singing, leadership,  an understanding of Māori language and waiata, and the opportunity for young New Zealand composers to showcase their work.

Once again St Cecilia Singers brought home a Gold Award and to add to their success, they also won the Hutt City Trophy for the Best Performance of a New Zealand composition for their beautiful interpretation of ‘Iustus Es’ by Dio alumni, and previous leader,  Kitty Milner.

The atmosphere was electric at the Gala,  and we are very proud of the achievements of the choir, under the expert direction of Lachlan Craig.
