After a season of events affected by relentless rain and wind, it was a pleasure to experience a beautiful, fine weekend of racing. While racing on the first day was delayed due to fog, once it lifted the conditions were perfect, and our crews thrived.
The team delivered outstanding results, bringing home three gold medals, one silver medal and three bronze medals. Particularly impressive was the record-breaking achievement of 19 A Final appearances, placing the entire squad among the top nine crews in the North Island.
Our senior rowers demonstrated exceptional leadership, supporting younger athletes and contributing to the squad’s strong performance. The gold medal crews were:
Under 15 Coxed Octuple Sculls
Under 17 Coxed Eight
Under 16 Coxed Four
A special mention goes to the Under 15 Coxed Quad Sculls. Entering the final as the fifth or sixth qualifier after scraping through their heat in 7:57.65, the crew delivered an extraordinary performance in the final. They powered down the course to claim silver in 7:39.00, a remarkable improvement and a thrilling race that reflected their determination and teamwork.
We extend sincere thanks to Rowing Club Chairs Rachel Stotter and Mark Hawksbee, and to the many parent helpers who supported the team by driving, cooking and assisting throughout the week. Rowing success is always a team effort.
With Head Coaches Caspar Hammond and Franklin Hamilton guiding the squad, the girls now look ahead to their final challenge of the season: the Maadi Regatta in Twizel from Monday 23 to Saturday 28 March.
Safe travels and best wishes to our Dio rowers, coaches, parents and supporters as they prepare for this exciting finale.
