Summer Tournament Week 2026 – Futsal
From Monday 23 to Wednesday 26 March, our Premier and Junior A Futsal teams competed in the NZSS Futsal Championships in Wellington.
Junior A, coached by Dio alumni Bella Cranefield, began strongly on Day 1, narrowly losing to Scot’s College before bouncing back with a 3–1 win over Sacred Heart.
On Day 2, they played two further pool games, progressing to quarterfinal 5, where they defeated Mt Albert Grammar 4–3 in a well-executed and tactical game. They then faced Hamilton Girls, going down in a close 1–0 match.
On the final day, the team met Mt Albert Grammar again in the 11th/12th playoff, finishing with a convincing 2–0 win to secure 11th place overall.
Captained by Collins Castronova (Year 10), the Junior A team showed great resilience, determination, and teamwork throughout the tournament.
The Premier team, coached by Kyaw Mya and captained by Holly Webster (Year 13) and Ava Carey (Year 12), also had a strong tournament, finishing 10th out of 32 schools.
They opened with an impressive 4–0 win over Onslow College before facing a tough loss to Baradene. A determined 4–2 win against Sacred Heart Girls saw them progress into the top 16.
On Day 2, they battled Rototuna before moving into the 9th–16th playoff bracket. The team showed great character, securing a 2–1 win over Wellington High School and backing it up with a 1–0 victory against Christchurch Girls’ High to advance to the 9th/10th playoff.
Despite their efforts, they were defeated 4–1 by a strong Hamilton Girls’ side, finishing 10th overall.
Both teams should be incredibly proud of their performances, effort, and growth across the three days. A special mention goes to Year 13 players Sian Christie, Holly Webster, Mia Hanton, and Zara Harris, who represented the school with pride in their final futsal tournament at Dio.
