The results were:
- Dio Symphony – Gold and Best Performance for Swan Lake, with special recognition of Chloe Xiao’s oboe solo.
- Dio Chamber Orchestra – Gold and Best Performance for Piazzolla’s Buenos Aires Suite, with special recognition of Eve Lu’s violin solo.
- Dio Concert Band – Gold and Best Performance for La Tupalaga a Aotearoa, arranged by Camryn Nel.
- ConcorDio Intermediate Strings – Bronze.
Adding to the significance of the achievement, Dio was the only girls’ school represented at both Gala performances and the only girls’ school to receive three Gold awards, alongside three Best Performance awards.
A special acknowledgement goes to Jasmine Sun, who directed both Concert Band and Symphony Orchestra this year. Jasmine’s musicianship, leadership and work with our wind and brass players have contributed enormously to the strength and development of these ensembles and their exceptional results.
We also acknowledge Camryn Nel for his beautiful arrangement of La Tupalaga a Aotearoa, as well as his support behind the scenes throughout the Gala. With ensembles of this size, transporting and managing instruments and equipment is no small undertaking!
It was wonderful to have members of Dio’s senior leadership team at the Gala performances, alongside former students and staff who came to support and congratulate our musicians. Their presence added to a very special occasion for the girls.
