Summer Tournament Week

Last week many of our sportswomen competed around New Zealand at National or North Island Championships.  It would be fair to say that Diocesan punches above its weight when it comes to the range of sports where we are competing at the very top level.

We participated in the North Island water polo championships, with most games being held at Diocesan on our home ‘turf’.  The Prem team suffered a defeat to Baradene in the semi-final, but defeated Rangitoto College in the final to win the bronze medal.  What a fantastic outcome for the girls.  Their next stop is at the New Zealand Water Polo Championships during the April School Holidays.  We wish them well as they seek a national title.

Dio students also competed in the NZ School Triathlon Championships at Mt. Maunganui.  Indie Williams and the team were delighted when she scored a silver medal in the U16 event.  With national titles for athletics, Indie has a very bright future ahead of her in a range of sport events.  Congratulations Indie!

We are still collating results from Summer Tournament week, but it is a great opportunity to thank all our coaches, sport managers, parents and administrators who enable all this to happen.  The pile of paperwork needed to ensure that all our Health and Safety obligations are met along with substantial travel and logistics.  Sporting initiatives give our students great opportunities to work as a team, to experience failures and successes that builds the resilience they need to thrive in the future.
