Year 7 and 8 Central Zones Cross Country took place on Thursday the 24 August at the Waiatarua Reserve. Dio had a team of six Year 7 girls and a team of seven Year 8 girls competing. In true Cross Country style, the course was covered in mud. The Year 8 Girls raced first, with our younger group in full force cheering them on the whole way. Grace Larsen came 1st, closely followed by Luisa Haines in 2nd place. Each and every Year 8 runner contributed to the teams’ final result. They took out 1st place and secured everyone a spot in the Interzones event.
All our Year 7 Girls gave it their absolute best, even losing a shoe in the mud along the way couldn’t stop them. Grace Dearlove came 2nd place and Abi Bethell came 10th place with both athletes securing a spot in the Interzones competition.
Year 7: Grace Dearlove, Abi Bethell, Clementine Coney, Honor Taylor, Phoebe Kelt, Cici Wang.
Year 8: Grace Larsen, Luisa Haines, Chloe Ulmer, Sophie Openshaw, Isabelle Brunton, Amy MacRae, Anna Lynskey.
With only a short turnaround of five days between the two Cross Country Zones events. On Tuesday the 29 August, the Interzones Cross Country event took place at Pukekohe Showgrounds. Dio had a group of eight students competing. We were finally in for a race with no rain and the beaming sun, which made for a hot race. All our runners gave it their absolute best and never gave up, resulting in an impressive 3rd Place Team Award.
