Every Dio entrant received certificates and placings, with several students also receiving awards and special recognition for their performances.
A special congratulations goes to Chloe Kwon (Year 10), who was awarded the Gwenneth Short Trophy for the Overall Vocal Championship 14–15 Years, an outstanding achievement in a highly competitive field. Emilia Young (Year 13) won the Sarah McDowall Cup for Musical Theatre, while Jasmine Hughes (Year 10) received the Young Performers Recital Award, as well as the Charlotte McDonald Mentorship Award for an Outstanding Promising Performer.
Competitions are an important part of a young singer’s musical development. Performing outside the familiar environment of music lessons gives students the opportunity to build confidence and resilience, learn to perform under pressure and develop their ability to communicate through music. Adjudicator feedback also helps students reflect on their performances and set goals for their continued vocal and musical development.
It has also been wonderful to see the way Dio students have supported one another throughout the competition season. Solo performance takes courage, and our singers have encouraged each other through the challenges and celebrated one another’s successes.
