A strong opening pool saw the team finish second, securing progression into the A and B Grade competition and guaranteeing a top 64 finish.

The opening pool also provided one of the most memorable experiences of the week. Three schools were attending AIMS for the first time, and the Dio players and supporters made a real effort to encourage them throughout pool play.

In the crossover stage, Dio faced tough opposition from Te Awamutu, Mt Roskill and Maungatapere. One win and two close losses saw the team progress as bottom seeds into the B Grade 49–64 placings.

From there, the team responded well, winning every remaining game to finish 49th overall and 17th in B Grade.

A highlight was returning to support Marotiri School and Whatawhata School, both competing at their first AIMS Games. The Dio team was on the sideline when Whatawhata secured their first victory by a single goal, sharing an emotional moment with the players and supporters.

The encouragement our students showed towards athletes from other schools was a wonderful example of how we want Dio to be represented beyond the scoreboard.
