Maika was elected as a representative of her parish, while Sophie holds one of the Synod’s youth seats.

Held each year on the first weekend of September, Synod is the Diocese of Auckland’s annual governing meeting. Delegates debate important issues, advocate on behalf of the wider church, consider and pass rules, oversee property and finances, and help shape the future direction of the Diocese.

Their involvement has a particularly meaningful connection to Dio. In 1903, it was Synod that made the decision to establish our school – a reminder of the lasting impact these decisions can have. It also reflects the words of our school prayer, which speaks of the “work of the school, dedicated to thy glory and the good of this diocese”.

As delegates, Sophie and Maika are able to take part in debate and present motions, contributing directly to the work and future of the Church.

Sophie’s involvement also extends beyond Auckland. At the 2025 Synod, she was elected as one of the delegates representing the Diocese of Auckland at General Synod / Te Hīnota Whānui, the provincial governing meeting of the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia.

Each General Synod is hosted in a different part of the Province, with this year’s meeting held in Nuku’alofa, Tonga.
