New Zealand Women's Water Polo team shines at 2024 World Aquatic Championships, securing 9th place. Led by Morgan McDowall's 31 goals, they inspire as role models for young women at Diocesan.

The New Zealand Water Polo team competed at the World Aquatic Championships in Doha from 2 – 18 February 2024.

The team featured Dio Alumnae, Libby Gault (2016), Morgan McDowall (2020), and Isabelle Jackson (2021), as well as Angie Winstanley-Smith (Director of Sport). The team came away with the best result in the modern world championships, placing 9th after playing some exceptional games against Hungary (Silver Medalists), Australia (6th), Canada (8th), China (10th), Kazakhstan (12th), and Singapore (16th).

This group has worked tirelessly with minimal funding, but the passion and determination were easy to see through every game.

Morgan McDowall scored 31 goals throughout the duration of the tournament, awarding her the top goal scorer at the final presentation. This is an exceptional achievement for Morgan and is a testament to the exceptional talent that she is. Morgan was also named in the 2024 All Media Team alongside six of the world’s best players.

Congratulations to the entire New Zealand Women’s Water Polo team for this fantastic result, especially to those that are part of our Dio community.
