Following a successful 2026 season, the team stepped up to A Grade with the goal of maintaining its place and building on last year’s campaign.
The tournament began with a challenging pool featuring 2025 NZSS qualifiers St Dominic’s College, 2026 ANC Premier 1 runners-up St Kentigern College, and Mahurangi College. Despite three narrow losses, Dio delivered some strong performances, coming particularly close against St Kentigern College, going down by just two goals.
Day 2 brought a turnaround, with Dio securing three convincing victories over Waikato Diocesan, St Peter’s Cambridge and Whakatane High School, all by nine or more goals.
The final two days brought more exciting competition, including a closely fought match against neighbours Epsom Girls Grammar School. The teams went goal for goal until the final quarter, when relentless defensive pressure and strong shooting saw Dio pull away for a 38–34 victory.
Following losses to Avondale College and Mahurangi College, the team faced a strong Pukekohe side in the playoff for 19th place, securing the win to finish 19th overall.
The result marks an important milestone for Dio Netball – our best UNISS result since 2012 and the first time in more than 12 years that the team has maintained its place in A Grade.
A special thank you to Coaches Vic and Holly, Team Managers Millie and Ms Reddix, and Physio Amy for their dedication and support throughout the tournament.
The team also farewelled Year 13 student Alex Collie, thanking her for her contribution to Dio Netball.
