The theme explored the idea of light as the invisible thread that links us together; the energy we share, the support we feel from those around us, and the sparks of inspiration that emerge through movement.
Across two evenings, the theatre was filled with supportive audiences who came together to celebrate the creativity and talent of over 500 of our curriculum and extra-curricular dance students. In the lead up to the performances, dancers devoted many hours to the creative process; collaborating, rehearsing, and shaping their works with dedication and enthusiasm.
The evening opened with a powerful performance by our Kapa Haka group, setting a tone of connection and celebration. This meaningful introduction grounded and welcomed the audience into the spirit of the event.
This year’s programme highlighted the strength of our curriculum dance programme, with performances from dance classes across multiple year levels. A standout work was Under Pressure, performed by the Year 13 curriculum dance class, which powerfully showcased their creativity, collaboration, and ability to communicate ideas through movement.
The evening also featured a Year 12 curriculum dance class Waltz, which was a beautiful piece to watch. Alongside this were a range of thoughtful and imaginative student choreographies developed as part of the curriculum programme, highlighting the creativity and developing artistry of our dancers.
The programme celebrated the breadth of our curriculum and extra-curricular dance community, featuring a wide variety of dance styles and performances including, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Flamenco, Bollywood, Kapa Haka, Chinese, Lyrical, Pasifika, Jazz, Waltz, Country and K-pop.
Together, these performances reflected the many ways dance connects our community, from performers and audience, to the friendships formed through rehearsals and shared creativity. Night of Dance: Threads of Light reminded us that when we move and create together, our individual lights combine to shine even brighter.
