Dio Strikes Gold at Fencing Championships
The Fencing North Secondary School Championships took place earlier this month, with Dio achieving outstanding results across Women’s Foil and Women’s Épée.

Bowie Wang (Year 12) continued her impressive run of success in Women’s Foil, claiming 1st place and the championship title for the third consecutive year.

This followed another outstanding result during the school holidays, when Bowie competed at the New Zealand Junior National Championships in Wellington. Competing against some of the country’s top young fencers, she claimed 1st place in Women’s Foil – a fantastic result reflecting the dedication she has put into her training throughout the year.

In Women’s Épée, Cici Wang (Year 10) finished 2nd, while Chloe Kwon (Year 10) placed 9th.

The success continued in the team event, with the Dio Composite Women’s Épée Team of Cici, Chloe and a third athlete from Waikato Diocesan School for Girls, finishing 2nd in the Women’s Épée A Division.

The team recorded impressive victories over Kristin School and St Cuthbert’s College before narrowly losing 42–45 to Pinehurst School in a thrilling final. Their 2nd-place finish secured qualification for the New Zealand Secondary School Fencing Championships, where they will compete against the country’s top secondary school teams.

Congratulations to Bowie, Cici, Chloe and Emma on their outstanding performances, and to the entire Dio fencing team on a fantastic championship!
