The girls delivered an outstanding performance, progressing through the pool rounds undefeated before securing a strong semi-final victory over St Cuthbert’s.
The team then faced defending champions Mt Roskill Intermediate in a thrilling final. After a skilful and determined display of football, the match was decided by an exciting penalty shoot-out, with Dio coming out on top to claim the Central Zone title.
Following this success, the girls went on to compete at the Auckland Championships on Wednesday, where they continued their impressive form by progressing through the pool rounds without conceding a single goal. A hard-fought semi-final against Baradene came down to another penalty shoot-out, with Dio narrowly missing out on a place in the final. The team bounced back strongly in the bronze medal match against St Ignatius, finishing the tournament with a win and earning 3rd place overall in Auckland.
This is the first time a Dio football team has progressed through to the Inter-Zone competition. This is an incredible achievement and a moment to be very proud of. Congratulations to all the players on their teamwork, determination and success.
A special thank you to Mr Bushell for his dedication and support in coaching the team throughout the season.
